Baby Pictures

The pictures below were taken this morning, when both subject and photographer were somewhat sleepy.

The Vasa coloring is hard to capture. None of these photos really show what her feathers look like, although they do capture quite accurately her slightly rumpled condition at the moment. She is not fully feathered yet, but she is getting there. In the next few months she will lose that babyish look and begin to look less threadbare.

It should be noted that she was most definitely NOT happy about being photographed... hence the pissed off look.

It would be nice to see her next to something recognizable for scale. Just how big are those feet...

I'll take some more pics this weekend; maybe I can put a yardstick into them. For reference purposes, she is about as tall as Ajax, but she is about 250 grams lighter...

I wanna know if her beak coloring is usual? She's very pretty. Hopefully she'll get used to having her royal picture taken.

She's lovely.

Mayren,

Beak markings vary from bird to bird in this species - it's kind of nice because it makes it easier to identify individuals. Hers are very symetrical, which is sort of unusual. They usually slowly change over time, and the whole beak will change seasonally as well.

Ben,

Thanks!

interesting beak facts! I have to say Linus... you make birds alot more facinating and fun that i've ever experienced before. You can definately tell that you love your non-human friends :)
